The lecture will be devoted to the museological propositions generated for the 2014 permanent/non-permanent exhibition “Impermanent Slovak National Gallery Exhibition”, prepared during the reconstruction of the Slovak National Gallery building in Bratislava. Combining late gothic and late baroque works of art, the exhibition is an innovative museological proposition. Curators Dušan Buran and Katarina Chmelinová investigate the spread of both styles and cultural formations – gothic and baroque – in the following fields: “Expression & Emotion”, “Type & Individual”, ”Space & Illusion”; “Light & Darkness”, “Body & Gesture”, “Life & Death”. The long-term exhibition is an interesting point of reference for the recently opened Gallery of Old Masters at the National Museum in Warsaw.

Dušan Buran (b. 1969) Holds a Master's Degree in Art History from the Faculty of Philosophy at Comenius University in Bratislava, and a doctorate from the Technische Universität in Berlin. He currently holds the position of Curator of the Collection of Gothic Art, and is head curator of Old Art Collections, at the Slovak National Gallery in Bratislava (SNG). He specializes in medieval sculpture, painting and iconography. He is the author and co-author of several exhibition projects, both at home and abroad, such as “The Gothic” exhibition in SNG (2003). His latest projects include the “Impermanent Slovak National Gallery Exhibition” (SNG, 2014), “Dʾor et de feu. L'art en Slovaquie à la fin du Moyen Âge” (Musée de Cluny Paris 2010/2011); “Art and Nature in Medieval Europe” (Slovak National Museum, Bratislava Castle 2013/2014). His articles have been published in Slovak and foreign academic journals (Germany, Italy, U.S.A, Czech Republic, Poland and Hungary).
