CATALOGUE / Self-Portraits

Tomasz Jeziorowski, Katarzyna Szydłowska-Schiller, Autoportrety / Self-Portraits, trans.: Szymon Włoch, design: Nicola Cholewa, Magdalena Heliasz, p. 272, National Museum in Warsaw, Warsaw 2025, ISBN 978-83-7100-503-9

The “Self-Portraits” exhibition catalogue, a joint project of the National Museum in Warsaw and the Friends of the National Museum in Warsaw Association, presents the works of twenty contemporary artists who took on the challenge of creating their own self-portraits. The exhibition was inspired by the collection of Ignacy Korwin-Milewski, a patron and collector who, at the end of the 19th century, commissioned portraits of the most prominent painters of the time (one of them female) to create a characteristic collection of images of Polish artists. These paintings can now be seen at the National Museum in Warsaw. The exhibition and corresponding catalogue demonstrate the continuity of artistic and cultural traditions and the importance of private patronage. The catalogue comprises a curatorial essay on self-portraiture today and a presentation of the works and profiles of the artists.
