A catalogue accompanying an exhibition of Polish 19th- and early 20th-century painting from the Romantic period to the Young Poland movement. The exhibition, a new Warsaw installment of an earlier show at the Louvre-Lens (northern France), attempted to define the common points of the Polish imagination shaped and cemented in grand 19th-century history paintings. Much attention was also devoted to the artistic and political ties between Poland and France. The publication contains essays by the French and Polish curators as well as reproductions of all of the works presented in the exhibition along with descriptions.
