Splendor i finezja. Duch i materia w sztuce Korei, academic editors Joanna Bojarska-Cieślik, Magdalena Pinker, Joanna Popkowska, graphic design by Ryszard Kajzer / Zerkaj Studio, 244 pages, illustrated, Muzeum Narodowe w Warszawie, Warszawa 2019, ISBN 978-83-7100-445-2.
This publication to accompany the largest presentation of Korean art in Central Europe to date – spanning from prehistory all the way to the end of the Joseon period (1392–1897). The exhibition and the catalogue strives to show a different side of Korea – generally associated with modern technology and popular culture in Poland. It is a country with a long history stretching back to antiquity and its sophisticated art is utterly fascinating. Comprising fine ceramics, Buddhist sculptures and scroll paintings, alongside works of metal, lacquer and stone, it will give viewers the opportunity to get to know Korea’s world of religious and philosophical beliefs, its symbolism and customs and experience the wealth of artistic tradition and Far Eastern beauty. All the objects come from the National Museum of Korea in Seoul, which houses the greatest collection of artefacts from the region.
