Exhibition Guercino. The Triumph of the Baroque
Masterpieces from Cento, Rome and Polish Collections

2013-09-20 - 2014-02-02

Between 20 September 2013 and 2 February 2014, the National Museum in Warsaw is going to present a selection of works of Guercino, one of the most outstanding painters of the Italian Baroque. The exhibited works are going to include the most famous pieces from Italian collections: the Pinacoteca, churches and palaces of Cento, the painter’s home town, as well as the famous Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Antica di Palazzo Barberini (Barberini Gallery) in Rome.

The public will have a unique opportunity to see one of the most intriguing and puzzling works in the history of modern painting: The Arcadian Shepherds – “Et in Arcadia ego” from the Barberini collection, which is rarely presented outside of Rome. The display of monumental paintings is going to be accompanied by drawing studies, sketches and prints. The retrospective exhibition at the National Museum in Warsaw is the first European presentation of the works of the Italian artist of such magnitude outside his homeland. The modern visual arrangement of the exhibition was devised by esteemed stage designer Boris Kudlička.
