LECTURE / The Female Impact. Women Patrons of the Dutch Golden Age
2020-03-09 / 17:00
5 PM
On the occasion of International Women Day we would like to invite you to the special lecture, given by dr Judith Noorman in the National Museum in Warsaw
Judith Noorman has taught at New York University and at the University of Amsterdam. Her field of expertise is early modern Netherlandish art. In her research, dr Judith Noorman studies the impact of women on the Dutch art market in the seventeenth century through household consumption. While it has long been known that the majority of paintings of the Dutch Golden Age were bought to decorate private homes, art historians have long overlooked women, who were at the time in charge of running the household, as important patrons on the art market. Revealing newly discovered women patrons of the Dutch Golden Age, dr. Judith Noorman demonstrates how women operated on the art market, what they purchased and why. As such, she brings to life a part of Dutch seventeenth-century society that has escaped our attention for far too long.
The presentation will be given in English / Polish translation will be provided / admission free*
