CONCERT / Languoria. Sofie Birch & Antonina Nowacka
8 p.m.
Concert accompanies the exhibition “Solstice. Nordic Painting 1880–1910”
Danish sound artist Sofie Birch and Polish experimental singer Antonina Nowacka initially met at 2021’s Ephemera Festival. A spark emerged from the combination of the two artists, leading to another collaboration at Unsound Festival the same year. After their second performance, the artist met in Copenhagen to record the album “Languoria”. Fusing the melodicism and gentleness of Birch’s sound practice and the abstract, spiritual vocalisations of Nowacka, the album alludes to the wonders of the natural world while also turning its gaze inwards. The well-received record is translated into a live show that premiered this year at the Unsound Festival.
For the first time in Warsaw, Sofie Birch and Antonina Nowacka will present “Languoria” during the opening weekend of the exhibition SOLSTICE at the National Museum. Scandinavian art exploring emotions and affirming nature will create a perfect context for their contemplative music performed in the museum’s modernist space.
Birch and Nowacka give us an enduring snapshot of the most ephemeral kind of beauty. — Pitchfork
